Smart Serve certificates issued before 2018 expired on August 31st, 2023!
Do you want to get your Smart Serve certification renewed, but get intimidated by the technological requirements of the course and test? Are you tired of the boring, stale, and confusing online course components? Have you struggled through the online course yourself, without success? Does the idea of trying to figure out how to use a computer in the first place fill your heart with dread?
Have no fear, fellow Lions!
The Freelton Lions Club is offering an in-person training course facilitated by a young Lion who has poured countless, tedious hours into making the course more fun and engaging, specifically with Lions in mind.
To this end, the facilitator Lion is able to sit next to Lions who struggle with technological impediments, and assist with the use of the computer for the test. If you don't own your own computer, that is okay! The Freelton Lions Club has several donated laptops that are set up to write the test.
How does it work?
Contact the Freelton Lions Club (freeltonlionsclub@gmail.com) to set up a mutually workable time and location for the course to take place. The course takes ~5 hours, and so an ideal timeframe would be between 9:30-10am to ~3-3:30pm, but this is flexible. This timeframe is ideal, because it allows the material to be split up for a half-hour lunch break, so we can all refresh! The facilitator can also stay later to assist those who wish to write their exams with assistance.
Please let our Lion facilitator know if the location you have in mind has a projector or internet access before the date of the course.
Registering your account online at smartserve.ca before the course is strongly recommended, but not required!
Costs
The course costs $55 per Lion, or $60 for non-Lions.* This covers the cost of the two test attempts, as well as a small fee to help the Freelton Lions Club recoup the costs of the in-person certification program.
Since test tokens will need to be purchased the night before the training occurs, payment must be issued at least one day before the training date. Otherwise, the test tokens cannot be purchased. The test tokens cannot be refunded, so it is important that you know who is attending the night before!
There is no minimum or maximum to the number of students that can be taught, and if there are some Lions in your club who can't attend on a certain day, it is possible to book a second presentation at a later date.
*Lions who have already purchased the course online, but who have failed their initial test attempt and want a refresher before their second, may attend for $10.
So, what are you waiting for? Contact the Freelton Lions Club (freeltonlionsclub@gmail.com) to set up Smart Serve Certification for your Club, today!
